NetOne in the Community

The network with the widest coverage and lowest rates in Zimbabwe truly believes in making sure that the society in which it operates is fulfilled in more ways than one. There are various projects that NetOne engages in that benefit disadvantaged communities.

Top amongst these projects is the NetOne Charity Shield whose net proceeds benefit charitable organisations which focus on children who are disenfranchised in society. In 2011, at the inaugural NetOne Charity Shield 10 charitable organisations benefited from the net proceeds of the match which was well attended at Rufaro Stadium.

NetOne has intervened in societies that are hard hit by drought especially in Matebeleland Province which is largely dry expanses of land. A borehole was drilled for the Mawabeni rural community which was hard hit by water shortages.

In Manicalands Murambinda in a village called Chiurwi, NetOne sank a borehole after the rains had proven scarce to assist the Primary and Secondary schools water needs. This borehole serves more than 1000 people who live in the vicinity of the borehole.s

NetOne has made interventions in educational needs of the less privileged. In Dande, a low lying area often hard hit by floods, there was a disused and neglected primary school. Two classroom blocks were sponsored by NetOne.

The green revolution in terms of alternative power sources is a gospel NetOne is happy to spread. Due to massive power shortages bedeviling rural communities in Zimbabwe, NetOne went on a drive to empower these disadvantaged communities by donating solar charging units to its subscribers who cannot charge their mobile phones for days on end. To date, solar chargers have been donated in Mt Darwin, Murehwa, Mubaira, Marange, Kezi, Gwanda and Mahusekwa, Madziwa with more areas coming soon.

The most notable solar charger that was donated to date was the one at Sosera Primary School in Mt Darwin which was donated to Honorable Vice President Amai Joice Mujuru.

NetOne is also a major sponsor for the National Blood Transfusion organization. This sponsorship is handled by the Easycall brand where schools enter into competitions for donating blood. The one with the most donations wins NetOne sponsored prizes.
