Introducing the NetOne Tourist SIM

Date Published

There is a special moment that happens just after you clear customs. You’ve landed at Harare International or maybe you’ve just touched down near the majestic Victoria Falls. The air feels different, the vibe is welcoming, and your first instinct? You want to pull out your phone, snap a photo, text your family that you’ve arrived safely, or pull up Maps to navigate to your lodge.

That’s why we at NetOne are thrilled to announce a gamechanger for travel in Zimbabwe: the NetOne Tourist SIM Card. Designed specifically with our visitors in mind, this is our way of saying "Welcome to Zimbabwe" before you even leave the airport.

Why the Tourist SIM? Because First Impressions Matter

As the largest mobile network operator in Zimbabwe, we have spent decades connecting locals. But we realized that for our guests, the experience was often confusing. Tourists were being asked for local addresses they didn't have or were requested to activate roaming before leaving their country of origin.

The NetOne Tourist SIM changes all of that.

This is a specialized, prepaid SIM crafted exclusively for short-term visitors.  It strips away all the friction and leaves you with pure, instant connectivity.

The "Welcome" Experience: How It Works

We have simplified the process into five easy steps, handled by our friendly agents at dedicated airport shops:

Welcome: You walk in, we greet you. We explain that the SIM card itself is completely free.

Register: You present your valid foreign passport. We handle the rest, ensuring full compliance with local regulations.

Choose: We consult with you on your data and calling needs based on how long you are staying.

Recharge: You purchase a simple airtime voucher to cover your chosen package.

Activate: We guide you through the final step—dialling *401#—to activate your bundle before you leave the desk.

It really is that simple.

Flexible Bundles for Every Type of Traveller

We know that not all tourists are the same. The business traveller heading to a conference in Bulawayo has different needs than a backpacker exploring the Eastern Highlands. To cater to this, we have launched three distinct, value-packed bundles priced in USD for clarity and ease.

Which one is for you?

The Light Explorer ($16): Perfect for a long weekend. Enough data for maps, WhatsApp messaging, and a few local calls to book restaurants.

The Social Snapper ($20): Our most popular choice. Ideal for tourists who want to upload photos to Instagram, stay in touch via video calls, and navigate confidently.

The Digital Nomad ($40): Built for power users. Heavy data for streaming, uploading HD content, or staying productive while on the move.

More Than Just Data: The Value of Total Peace of Mind

We have heard the chatter comparing our pricing to international eSIMs . But here is the thing: a tourist SIM is not just about gigabytes. It is about holistic connectivity.

When you land in Zimbabwe, you don't just need data. You need to call a local tour operator to confirm your pickup. You need to SMS your Airbnb host. You need a local number that lodges and restaurants recognize.

Our Tourist SIM bundles give you:

Local Voice Minutes: Essential for making reservations or inquiries.

SMS Capabilities: For quick, reliable texts when data is spotty.

A Local Presence: Having a NetOne number instantly integrates you into the local communication network.

While an international data-only eSIM might be cheaper per gig, it doesn't give you a local number or the ability to make local calls. For the complete Zimbabwean experience, you need the complete package.

Availability: We Meet You at the Gate

We have strategically launched this service at the country's busiest entry points. You can find the NetOne Tourist SIM at:

Harare International Airport

Victoria Falls Airport

Any other port of entry

We are currently working on expanding to major land border posts like Beitbridge and Chirundu to ensure that no matter how you enter Zimbabwe, you are covered.

eSIM? We Have You Covered

In a nod to the future and the tech-savvy traveller, the Tourist SIM is available both as a traditional physical SIM and as an eSIM . If your phone supports eSIM, you can be connected instantly without waiting for a physical card. Just ask our agents at the counter!

The Fine Print (We Keep It Simple)

Validity: The SIM card itself is valid for 90 days from activation.

Bundle Expiry: Bundles last 30 days. Unused data/minutes expire after this period, so you can choose a new bundle that fits your extended stay.

Usage: These bundles are designed for use within Zimbabwe. For international calls, simply top up your main wallet.

Once you have your tourist SIM card, we advise you to get in touch with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.
